There are these two young fish swimming along and they happen to meet an older fish swimming the other way, who nods at them and says "Morning, boys. How's the water?" And the two young fish swim on for a bit, and then eventually one of them looks over at the other and goes "What the hell is water?"

Exactly. What the hell is it? 
Here you are a video with an excerpt from David Foster Wallace's commencement address to the 2005  graduating class of Canyon College. 
I think it's a marvellous deviation on our default map. It does not teach you to think but how to start thinking differently, and it shows a new path and a new horizon, maybe a lot better than those ones we are staring right now.

Ci sono questi due giovani pesci che nuotano assieme e capita loro di incontrare un pesce più vecchio che nuota dall'altra parte, che si volta verso di loro e dice: "Buongiorno, ragazzi. Io credo sia una meravigliosa deviazione sulla nostra mappa di default. Non ti insegna a pensare ma come iniziare a pensare differentemente, e mostra un nuovo percorso e un nuovo orizzonte, forse di gran lunga migliori di quelli che stiamo fissando adesso.
