A river, underwater // Un fiume, sottacqua

Blogdiggin' today I've remained speechless looking at these images. It sounded like it was a photoshop manipulation, but it was not. It look exactly like it is. Or better: it isn't exactly what it looks like. You should agree with me saying that Mother Nature made a great job in creating this trompe l'oeil. The illusion of an underwater river it's created by the composition of the water: a layer of hydrogen sulfide, which lies on the boundary between fresh and salt water, together with the fallen dead trees and leaves, compose this astonishing paint. The place is Cenote Angelita, in Mexico and the photographer who I should thank is Anatoly Beloshchin.

Facendo diggin' tra i blog oggi sono rimasto senza parole davanti a queste immagini. Sembrava una manipolazione di photoshop, ma non lo era. Appare esattamente come è. O meglio: non è esattamente cosa sembra. Dovreste essere d'accordo con me nel dire che Madre Natura ha fatto un grandioso lavoro nel creare quest'illusione ottica. L'illusione di un fiume sottomarino è creata dalla composizione dell'acqua: uno strato di solfuro di idrogeno, che si distende sul confine tra acqua dolce e acqua salata, assieme ad alberi e foglie morte caduti dall'alto, compongono questo magnifico quadro. La location è Cenote Angelita, in Messico e il fotografo che dovrei ringraziare è Anatoly Beloshchin.

There are these two young fish swimming along and they happen to meet an older fish swimming the other way, who nods at them and says "Morning, boys. How's the water?" And the two young fish swim on for a bit, and then eventually one of them looks over at the other and goes "What the hell is water?"

Here you are a video with an excerpt from David Foster Wallace's commencement address to the 2005  graduating class of Canyon College. 
I think it's a marvellous deviation on our default map. It does not teach you to think but how to start thinking differently, and it shows a new path and a new horizon, maybe a lot better than those ones we are staring right now.

Ci sono questi due giovani pesci che nuotano assieme e capita loro di incontrare un pesce più vecchio che nuota dall'altra parte, che si volta verso di loro e dice: "Buongiorno, ragazzi. Com'è l'acqua?" E i due giovani continuano a nuotare per un pò, e quindi uno di loro si gira verso l'altro e fa:"Cosa diavolo è acqua?"

Io credo sia una meravigliosa deviazione sulla nostra mappa di default. Non ti insegna a pensare ma come iniziare a pensare differentemente, e mostra un nuovo percorso e un nuovo orizzonte, forse di gran lunga migliori di quelli che stiamo fissando adesso.

Reflections from a pond / Riflessi da uno stagno

The first time I saw these pictures I got stuck staring at them for a bunch of seconds and I had the deep sensation I was in front of a stargate, a time-and-space door between "here" and a never-never land generated by fantasy and made by memories, games, carefreeness, wonder, wide opened eyes.
The creator of this gate to another world is Alain Laboile, a french photographer who froze his own kids' reflections and their fantastic world into the humble stretch of water of a pond close to his house.
Personally I thank him.

La prima volta che ho visto queste foto sono rimasto a fissarle per alcuni secondi e ho avuto la netta sensazione di trovarmi davanti ad uno stargate, una porta spazio-temporale tra il "di qua" e un immaginifico mondo generato dalla fantasia fatto di ricordi, giochi, spensieratezza, stupore, occhi sgranati. Il creatore di questa finestra di passaggio verso un altro mondo si chiama Alain Laboile, un fotografo francese che ha immortalato i riflessi dei propri figli e del loro fantastico mondo nell'umile specchio d'acqua di uno stagno vicino casa. 
Io personalmente lo ringrazio.

Trattieni il fiato e non guardare giù. E soprattutto non riguardare questo video. Capiresti la profonda differenza fra chi certe cose le fa e chi le guarda soltanto. Io l'ho capita al volo.

Hold your breath and do not look down. And above all do not watch again this video. You would catch the huge difference between who does certain things and who just watches them. I caught it immediately.

Pirelli 2013: Not just a calendar/Non solo calendario

Avevo sentito dire che quest'anno il fotografo per il Calendario Pirelli sarebbe stato il leggendario Steve McCurry. Non c'era alcun dubbio. Ovviamente non si sarebbe trattato del solito calendario di bellissime nude e bei posti. Con McCurry il calendario parla di persone e di fotografia. E c'è della magia in questo.

Lately I've heard that the photographer for this year Pirelli calendar was supposed to be the legendary Steve McCurry. There was no doubt. Obviously it wouldn't have been the usual calendar full of beautiful naked women and beautiful places. Thanks to McCurry the calendar speaks about people and photography. And there's something magic in that.

Dark Lens

I personaggi di Guerre Stellari che invadono il nostro mondo urbano.
Fantascientifico,si, ma mai apparso talmente verosimile.
Si tratta di 'Dark Lens', progetto del fotografo francese Cédric Delsaux , che ha aperto uno stargate sul pianeta terra dei giorni nostri ai vari Darth Vader,Boba Fett, Jabba the Hutt e chi più ne ha più ne metta.
Il risultato è impressionante.

Nel tuo frigo

Una volta Stephanie de Rouge era a casa di amici di amici e, aprendo il frigo per prendere una birra, si ritrovò al cospetto di Barbie e i suoi amici. Chiese agli amici degli amici di poter fare una foto.
"In Your Fridge" è un progetto che dura da oltre 3 anni ed è ancora in cantiere. Stephanie ci propone dittici di persone e dei loro frigoriferi. Un approccio voyeuristico al limite tra l'indagine sociale e il 'nonfarsiicazzipropri' che butta un occhio nelle vite degli altri e dice più di quanto lasci intendere questo bizzarro accostamento.
Buttateci un occhio.
